Cat Yoga? You Gotta be Kittin’ Me.

Combine yoga, adorable cats and a great cause and you have Cat Yoga at Crumbs and Whiskers. What is Crumbs and Whiskers you may ask? It is DC’s one and only #Catcafe. You heard right– a cafe (serving coffee and delicious treats) filled with adorable kitties all of whom are up for adoption. They just celebrated their 1st birthday AND a whopping 102 cats adopted! A purrrrfect combination if you ask me. Aside from providing the most cuddly, cute and love filled atmosphere to work, read or just hang out, Crumbs and Whiskers also provides for the fitness enthusiast by having “Cat Yoga” for an hour an a half on Sunday evenings. I first saw a posting for this unique yoga experience on Instagram and immediately had to sign up (follow @crumbsandwhiskers for adorable cat photos and event updates.) Sarah, Debbie and I headed over to Crumbs and Whiskers, found a golden parking spot and eagerly went in. We saw kitten number 1, snoozin on the reception desk and knew immediately it was going to …

A WeCap: Whole 30, Yoga and Blossoms

I’ve decided Sundays are going to be my week’s recap…now known as a WeCap. Enjoy! Normally I try to keep some type of theme in these posts…but so much has happened over the past week that I can’t even imagine thinking of weaving all of these things in smoothly. Soooo, I’m not going to try because I… …don’t give a ship. OK. So first thing on the docket: today marks the end of week 1 in our attempt at Whole 30… and WHOLLY hell (definitely using that has the headline in the future), it is not for the faint of heart. It isn’t even the fact that I can’t eat bread. It isn’t the fact that I can’t eat cheese. What makes Whole 30 so difficult is the fact that I have to cook each meal to stay on plan. On Whole 30, you have to avoid certain foods, one of them being sugar (besides sugar in fruits/veggies)….and I don’t know if you know…but sugar is in EVERYTHING. On a usual week, I am able to go …

Bum foot, Bangs and a Butt Load of Cookies

Yikes! My first time in about 6 months that I’ve gone longer than 6 days without posting. I try pretty hard to stick to a blogging schedule (for my own good…and for you dedicated readers out there…hi mom!) but sometimes, I just can’t. But that is life… plan, be surprised, move forward…repeat. Which takes me to my first update for this week… Turns out that little ache in my pesky foot is a stress fracture. Surprise! It was really crappy piece of news to be delivered especially before 2 races I was REALLY looking forward to. The prognosis is a minor stress fracture. I also learned that my navicular bone is abnormally large which is ironic because my foot is so tiny. But you do know what they say about large navicular bones right? 😉 Yeah, me either. I knew the mechanics of my body were just wrong! These tiny feet weren’t meant to hold my frame! So I’ve been booted for a few weeks but hopefully with some rest, the boot, and some new orthodics …

I love lamp (and yoga, and caramallows)

Happy almost Valentines Day! Yes I know. It’s not a real  holiday but I’ve always been OK with February 14th; there is always an excess of chocolate floating around, people just seem to be very giddy (or very cynical), flowers are abundant (even though it is 20 degree outside) and it is nice to see an outpour of love (if even in the form of a cheap stuffed animal). I actually really enjoy seeing people loving so much! That said, I’m not especially into celebrating it. In fact, a few years ago I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out (unplanned) on Valentines Day, leaving poor Steven to eat Chick-Fil-A by himself in a mall food court. Then last year,  we went to Chick-Fil-A (voluntarily) with friends to celebrate. It was super fun! (seriously, no sarcasm here…I’m serious!) This year, we planned on going to Chick-Fil-A (recognizing a theme here?) but V-day falls on a Sunday, so that plan is ruined. I guess we need to choose another fast food venue! So to appease both my Valentines lovers …

Working on my 1-Pack

A few weeks ago, I posted about how I’ve been yoga-ing more to help with my half-marathon training.  Well, I’ve spent a lot of time working out with YouTube and figured it might be time for some real human interaction. So, Sarah and I braved the first snow DC has seen this season and headed to Core Power Yoga in Clarendon.  We decided to attend the Core Power Yoga 1 class which is specifically aimed at novice yogis like ourselves. In this class, there is no heat added (as there is with the higher level classes). We also noticed that this class was free! I’ve mentioned before that Core Power Yoga offers 1 free week to new students but right now, they are also training future yoga instructors by letting them lead the Wednesday beginning class. Perfect! When we got to the studio, we were greeted by the friendly staff along with all the other yogis who decided to head up despite the inclement weather (go ahead, make your jokes about what DC folks call …

Yoga-ta be Stretchy… I mean I gotta be Stretchy

I’m one of the least flexible ladies  you will ever meet. In elementary school, the v-sit and reach was bane of my existence that lead to me failing the “Presidential Physical Fitness Test” year after year. Now, I’m finding that not only did my un-flexibleness destroy my childhood, but it’s also hindering my runs. I’ve done yoga in the past, (but never consistently) and have always felt amazing after. So, I recently started doing some at home yoga and it has already made a world of difference both mentally and physically. My studio is my dining room and my instructor is whoever I find on YouTube. I just go on the tube and search for the type of yoga I’m in the mood for and something always comes up (the magic of YouTube!)  For example, a month or two I started with this: Then I started looking into some quick morning yoga… Then I started doing cool down yoga after my runs…this is when I snapped this weird picture of me and Drake tree posing it. You get the idea. So …
