I Do’s and Peek a Boo’s

I was always told that college was the time you really grow, find yourself and become an adult. I totally disagree. College was the time where I crammed for tests and papers (like in high school), had meals prepared for me (like in high school) and slept in bunk beds (like in high school). If anything, I regressed in mental maturity because of the social activities I was a part of. One time in college I ate 8 hot dogs at a Jimmy Buffet day party. I  may have “grown” a pant size, but I hardly believe that any maturing happened. The first few years out of college however, have been a whirlwind of what I’ve felt like adulting is. Friends committing their lives to another, friends having offspring, battling with money, jobs, etc. Now THESE events have made me grow, find myself and become an adult. Some people hate it. Work becomes more intense and responsibilities grow. Days of drinking too early and staying up too late become a rarity. Walking to friends apartments on a whim become …

Realizing the Dream: A Pokemon Story

Warning: if you follow me on snapchat, some of these jokes may seem familiar. Sorry, I’m not sorry, they were great jokes! Just kidding, my brain is too tired to think of new ones. If you want to see some fresh stuff, make sure you follow me @sunnieko. SO, last week I got the best email of all time. A company called Augusta Sports emailed me asking “at what lengths would you go to catch em all?” “Well,” I thought, “that depends.” The email continued and asked if they could send some of their gear to try out on a pokemon hunt/run and to represent my team (yeah team VALOR!). New gear? Legit excuse to play  more Pokemon go? Um. Yes please. My 10 year old former self was giving me a high five. August Sports sent me two pieces: The women’s Zentense Tank (in valor red) is a super wicking tank top which was perfect for the humid night I chose to run. As I’ve mentioned, I’m a real sweater and wasn’t even aware of …

My Homage to Sia

I woke up this morning with the best text of my life from my dear love, Sarah.   I love Sia. She is life. I love her music, her voice and I love her cool wigs and bows. I immediately whipped open the App and saw the glory that is the Sia SnapChat filter. And then it happened. It started off innocent enough… But then, I knew I needed to do more. I kept trying to think of ways to pay homage to my current musical idol. So I started what was to end up being the longest snapchat story of all time. You all know that chilling, hauntingly beautiful song, Chandelier? Of course you do. Well I knew I could never outdo my favorite Dance Mom’s dancer, Maddie, but I was inspired to try my own interpretation. I present to you, Chandelier, as told by me, via Sia SnapChat filter.   Yes, I know, I probably spent way too much time doing this. But anything for my girl, Sia. Follow me on snapchat (sunnieko) …

We didn’t watch TV for a week, and here’s what happened

We died. Just kidding. A few weeks ago, Steven suggested that I knock off another “52 Tris in 52 weeks” items. It had been awhile (life got busy!) but I’m still determined to complete the list. At the pace I’m completing these, I’m going to have a very, very….very busy December. The rules were simple: No TV and no computer. Here are the notes from my Week With No TV Diary. Monday Dear Diary, Today after work, Steven and I went to the Nationals Game with Sarah and Tommy. It was a fun game (except that the Nat’s lost.) We partially planned to complete this task this week because we knew we wouldn’t have to worry about struggling with no TV for at least a day. Starting the week with good friends, baseball, and dippin dots… seems like its gonna be a easy peasy! Tuesday Dear Diary, Today, we had our first dinner at home for the week. Normally, dinner consists of some lovely meal on our couch while we watch Chopped, whatever game is on …

Enter: The Late Twenty-Something

It is official…I’m a late twenty something! This birthday, I was lucky enough to get to celebrate all weekend long. Steven’s sister, Cathy, and her fiancé, Ted, came into town to hang out with us and partake in the birthday shanagans which made it extra awesome. So here is what went down! On Saturday, I woke up early to get a quick run with City Fit Girls. It was so amazing running with these great ladies, but you can read more about that here. After, Steven, Cath, Ted and I took a quick drive over to Ronald Reagan National Airport to experience some serious aviation. If you are from the DC area, or are planning on visiting, I would definitely suggest swinging by Gravely Point Park. This isn’t your run of the mill park. Sure, there are picnic tables to feast on, fields to run around on and plenty of dogs to play with…but there are also huge planes landing right over head! Let me show you… It is amazing to watch them all come in from …

I love lamp (and yoga, and caramallows)

Happy almost Valentines Day! Yes I know. It’s not a real  holiday but I’ve always been OK with February 14th; there is always an excess of chocolate floating around, people just seem to be very giddy (or very cynical), flowers are abundant (even though it is 20 degree outside) and it is nice to see an outpour of love (if even in the form of a cheap stuffed animal). I actually really enjoy seeing people loving so much! That said, I’m not especially into celebrating it. In fact, a few years ago I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out (unplanned) on Valentines Day, leaving poor Steven to eat Chick-Fil-A by himself in a mall food court. Then last year,  we went to Chick-Fil-A (voluntarily) with friends to celebrate. It was super fun! (seriously, no sarcasm here…I’m serious!) This year, we planned on going to Chick-Fil-A (recognizing a theme here?) but V-day falls on a Sunday, so that plan is ruined. I guess we need to choose another fast food venue! So to appease both my Valentines lovers …

Chi-Town Date with Aziz Ansari

I dare say that Aziz Ansari has played a critical part in my relationship with Steven. When we first started dating, Steven and I were 24, both freshly returned from living abroad, newly employed in the US workforce, living on our own, and embodying everything there was to embody when you are a mid-twenty-something. Our dates consisted of cheap beers, taco nights, late nights out with friends and did I mention cheap beers? A live Aziz Ansari show was the first big date activity Steven and I did together that didn’t involve a bar. It was revolutionary. Ok I lied, there was a bar… but it only played a small part in the date. I don’t think Steven ever really found Aziz that funny… He tolerated how highly I spoke of the Parks and Rec star, and fake laughed as I repeated his jokes over and over again. Fast forward a few years, and Aziz has come out with a Netflix original series called Master of None. I watched the first season in a weekend (if you haven’t seen it, I highly …
